RESEARCH abstract

This research investigates the involvement of youth-led organisations and young people in the implementation of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) across six European countries.
The study explores:

  • The motivations driving youth participation in development work

  • The barriers that limit youth engagement

  • The role of youth organisations in advancing global and European development objectives

  • The transformative impact of volunteering and active citizenship on young people

  • Concrete recommendations for improving youth inclusion and participation

The research combines literature review, policy analysis, and over 60 interviews with youth workers, NGOs, and young volunteers. It provides practical insights and resources to empower youth organisations and support their strategic role in global development efforts.
