Why was this project created?

Young people and youth organisations remain underrepresented in development work, both locally and globally. Despite their potential, they often lack access to meaningful participation, resources, or visibility in shaping policies and actions aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Hands On Development Work addresses this gap by actively involving youth in civic engagement, training, and project design — turning passive observers into key stakeholders in global change.

MOTIVATION

Young people today are driven by a mix of personal development and a desire to make a difference. Our project explores what motivates youth to engage in development work — from career growth and self-improvement to empathy and social responsibility — helping organisations better support and inspire active citizenship.

DEVELOPMENT

We focus on how youth participation contributes to sustainable development, both locally and globally. By promoting a partnership-based model rather than a charity-based one, we empower young people to become co-creators of change in line with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Youth Organisations

Youth organisations are key players in achieving social change. The project identifies barriers they face, such as lack of resources, recognition, or training, and provides tools, research, and training opportunities to strengthen their role in development policies and global engagement.

SELF –TRANSFORMATION

International volunteering and youth engagement experiences often lead to deep personal change. Through real-world activities and reflection, young people gain new skills, cultural understanding, and confidence — shaping their identity as active citizens and future leaders.
